Omegle: Stranger Danger!

Posted by Eric Bee | March 31, 2009

stranger

Oh, digital evolution. You surprise me every day. Today, you brought to my attention this little gem of a website called OMEGLE.COM, an online chat service that lets you talk to strangers. Forget Facebook and Myspace, which only let you communicate with people you might actually know in real life. This is the new digital hotness right here: total anonymity and an open forum for saying whatever you want to a total stranger.

However, the benefit of this site goes far beyond its intended purpose of being “a brand-new service for meeting new friends.” With my first few forays into chatting on this site, I don’t think I would be friends with anyone I’ve met on here. Hell, I’m downright frightened by some of these folks. No, this web gem is living proof of one of my favorite modern theorems ever created, via the geniuses over at Penny Arcade, and is a prime example of everything that’s right and wrong with The Internet.

Another Super Bowl brings the time-honored tradition of Ad People giving their two cents on what spots made the most of their $3 million and we’re no exception to this.

So far, we’ve seen YouTube as an outlet for people’s home videos, lip-synching fiascos, news reporting, and serialized drama.  The Internet is a crafty little devil, though, and has found a brand new use for the streaming video powerhouse: casual gaming platform.

las vegas, you’re doing it wrong

Posted by Eric Bee | December 23, 2008

spn4201the-rat-pack-postersFor a one-week honeymoon in Las Vegas, my beautiful new bride had one, solid rule: no work.  No emails to L.A, admonishing their lack of gamerscore.  No phone calls to Benny pretending to be a FSU fan with a grudge.  Nothing of the sort.  However, while taking in the sights and sounds of the Strip, I couldn’t help noticing how certain parts of Vegas have ignored the advancing march of technology.  To its benefit, Vegas keeps itself somewhat sheltered from the future to protect its certain charm and customer service industry, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t trying to play it cool, boy.  After a few days, Wife and I found a part of this desert oasis that boasted innovation and a taste of tomorrow.   But, from what we saw, the future of Vegas could be headed in a direction that would make Sinatra smash a cocktail glass over the city’s collective head.  Papa’s new pair of ugly shoes are after the jump.
