youtube: press start to continue
Posted by Eric Bee | January 18, 2009So far, we’ve seen YouTube as an outlet for people’s home videos, lip-synching fiascos, news reporting, and serialized drama. The Internet is a crafty little devil, though, and has found a brand new use for the streaming video powerhouse: casual gaming platform.
Canadian stop-motion director Patrick Boivin, already noted for his elaborate short films featuring Transformers breakdancing and Stikfas figures skateboarding, used classic Street Fighter toys to craft a mini-game based around the hit arcade franchise. While using a crude, “Choose-Your-Own-Adventure” play design, the charm of action figures, hyperlinked videos, and the nostaligia factor of Guile vs. E-Honda make this a well-deserved distraction from your cubicle activities.
Sure, it’s a slapdash method to simulate gameplay on a web platform that wasn’t designed for it, but considering the first video games were built on basic oscilliscopes, the desire to find play where it doesn’t exist shines through again in this little gem of innovation.
Insert the coin you stacked on your monitor ledge and play the game here.
