The “L”: It’s Off-The-Train!

Posted by Jessica Lau | May 6, 2010

Call me crazy or perhaps too innocent, but I get a kick out of riding the CTA trains. There’s something about public transportation that makes me feel so important. It’s 7:10am on a weekday morning, and there I am, standing on a platform scattered with yuppies and working folk. With my coffee thermos in one hand (insert shameless plug for @betacup here) and scrolling my iPod playlist with the other, I try to contain my excitement as the Purple Line train to the Loop screeches to a halt and the humdrum, two-tone “L”-bell greets me. But I get the feeling that I am a part of the minority, as evident by these cantankerous Chicagoans. (See: “The CTA sucks my left ass cheek.”)

It got me wondering: how do the always-candid employees here at Denuo feel about the “L”? And, being the creative innovators they are, what kind of ideas do they have for improving the ride? I began my research by asking everyone to give me three adjectives that describe their relationship with the “L”.  Below are the top six adjectives:

The Good Ole Sneaker Days

Posted by Matt Story | April 27, 2010

sneakers

Fellow sneaker heads, we are not a secret society.

There is a group of us out there that agree there are few feelings better than scooping an exclusive pair of your favorite sneakers (whether that’s Air Max 95s, Jordan Vs, or Dunks in my case). There are numerous sneaker shops throughout the country (and abroad – don’t sleep) that are always good for that unexpected gem that completes your collection (until you come back next time) and leaves you on cloud nine with a reward for your sneaker sleuth skills.

Unfortunately, technology and innovation are ruining that euphoric feeling for me. Whether it’s the traditional email/newsletter or the constantly growing social media landscape, shoe companies are making it tougher to get my hands on their exclusive goodies. A culture once dominated by word of mouth is now fully embracing the tools of the digital word of mouth landscape. Woot for them. FML for me.

Saneel’s send-off in 140 characters

Posted by Mary DeBrunner | April 23, 2010

SR

This week officially marks Saneel’s last week at Denuo. Conveniently, volcanic ash seemed to keep him far away from us (i.e. Vienna) until hours before our rousing farewell party at Vertigo at the Dana Hotel in Chicago. Coincidence? We think not. But we do know that he will miss us…and the feeling is mutual.
Saneel has long been a driving force inside of Denuo. He helped put Play on the map; gave Denuo a voice in the social space via Denuology; and turned Denuo’s team of hybrid talent mongrels into Alchemists. He even tried to make Transformers and Snuggies cool.
So, before he takes off for the Big Apple and settles into his new role at BBH Labs as Director of Media Innovation, we wanted to share our gratitude and support via Saneel’s favorite method of communication: witty tweets.
So below are some short, heartfelt farewells to our creative leader! We wish you well in the land of even more pretentious creative hang-outs, foodie-worthy restaurants and places to buy matching shoes and watches!
