REFLECTING ON ONE YEAR OF REFLECTEUR

reflecteur

Last month we celebrated the first anniversary of Reflecteur, a product we created to help us understand digital culture. The modern marketplace is one that increasingly is shaped by digital culture – how people use digital platforms to connect with each other, share with like-minded people, express themselves, and find entertainment, among other tasks.

SEMANTICS

buzzword

We work in an industry of buzz words. As long as Malcolm Gladwell is writing books and insecure mad men are driven to speak in meetings, buzz words will be a way of life.

And that’s OK. It gives us something new to talk about / make fun of / learn from. But there are at least 3 words that are bad for brands. Not because of the words themselves, but because of what we’ve come to let them mean.

140 CHARACTERS ON SUPER BOWL ADS

Another Super Bowl brings the time-honored tradition of Ad People giving their two cents on what spots made the most of their $3 million and we’re no exception to this.

This week’s 140 Characters takes a look at what made us laugh, cry, throw things, and demand that people put down the guacamole and chicken fingers and get ready to rock.

WE WON A TWITTER REVENUE CONTEST!

Posted by Benny Torres | February 5, 2009

twitter

A couple weeks ago Saneel was browsing the internets and happened upon Silicon Alley Insider’s “Twitter Business Model Contest.” The contest asked for ideas on a viable revenue plan for Twitter – something it doesn’t quite yet have. He forwarded the link to the rest of the group and we decided that we wanted to tackle the problem.

Why, you ask? Well, frankly, we love Twitter. Nearly everyone in the office uses it on a daily basis. (Heck, Saneel even created some rules to tweet by.) We’d hate to see Twitter disappear.

We also thought we could come up with a more innovative (and less intrusive) idea than ads via Twitter. Being ad supported means being focused on CPM – and that just didn’t make much sense to us. So with that – we released the hamsters onto the wheels in our heads and got to thinking.

AURAL KAOSS

(Due to space constraints in the latest issue of PLAYed, half of my CES blurb didn’t make the cut, so I’m posting it here with bonus multimedia content.)

Staring in awe at 105″ HDTV screens usually makes up a large part of my CES experience. And with new sets touting a billion-to-one contrast ratios and really absurd 3D goggles, I thought for sure I’d be bloodshot and over-stimulated once again at the Samsung, Pioneer, and Panasonic booths; but instead, this year brought a couple of aural surprises that let my ears enjoy the CES festivities as well. Hit the jump for the audio goodness.
