The biggest difference between the NHL and the NBA today: The NHL rewards toughness. Lay a guy out with a good clean check and get celebrated by your coach and teammates back in the locker room. Spring right back up and continue skating AFTER getting laid out and you’ll earn your teammates’ and the other team’s respect for life. Same goes for the NFL.

Two weeks ago, quarterback Donovan McNabb of the Philadelphia Eagles admitted to not knowing one of the NFL’s overtime rules when his team’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals ended in a 13-13 tie. McNabb, a 10-year NFL veteran, said that he didn’t realize games could end in a tie until the final play of the game. “I never even knew that was in the rule book,” McNabb was quoted as saying. Since his admission, McNabb has faced massive amounts of criticism, with many calling for the former All-Pro QB to loose his starting job. But is the criticism really warranted? Last night I was trying to track some NHL games via my mobile internet and went to NHL.com to get some scores. The amazing thing is, the NHL didn’t automatically send me to a mobile site. After a few minutes and a gradually rising eyebrow, it just dropped me off on a beat up version of their website. Maybe they have one that the iPhone doesn’t automatically send you to it but I stood looking at my phone with a face as though I had just gotten an e-mail saying “the entire royal family has been electrocuted and you are the rightful heir to the throne”, a la King Ralph. Side note for anyone who doesn’t think product placement works, I remember these things from King Ralph: The family being electrocuted during a picture, Ralph sneezing and his crown falling into the bathtub, Ralph bowling, and Burger King. As an added note, thinking about this is making me crave a Whopper.
